Worst Household Chore

Eight chores enter and the winner is whichever one you dread most, which sounds like a low bar and still produces a real fight.

What makes a chore genuinely bad is rarely the amount of effort involved. Dishes are unpopular because they refill the moment you finish, so the work never has an endpoint to aim at.

Folding laundry is not difficult in any respect and gets avoided for days because it is boring in a way that resists music, podcasts or company. Cleaning the oven is infrequent enough that people forget how bad it is until they are physically inside one. Descaling a kettle is a two-minute job that somehow waits eleven months for no reason anybody can explain.

Expect thirty-two chores wide, and the framing is specific: which one you would pay somebody else to take off your hands.

That framing separates the field far better than dread alone would. Several chores people complain about constantly are ones they would never actually outsource, and one or two quiet entries turn out to be the first thing anyone would hand over.
