Wrestling outcomes are decided in advance, which should make an upset impossible. It does not. The shock is real, because the audience spent months being told who the winner would be.

That is the craft behind every match here. A company builds a monster, a champion or a streak until the result feels certain, and then spends all of that credibility in a single roll-up. When it works, the crowd reaction is the loudest noise of the night. When it is a one-off, the loser is back on top next week and the winner is never heard from again, which only makes the moment stranger to look back on.

The field is every upset WWE itself has put on its lists, playlists and highlight titles, from the 1-2-3 Kid in 1993 to Maxxine Dupri in 2025, as long as the match still sits on an official WWE channel. That makes for thirty-seven, with streak endings, first wins, surprise champions and a celebrity or two.

Judge by the gap between what everyone expected and what happened. A world title changing hands is not automatically the bigger shock. Sometimes the jobber beating the midcarder on a random Monday is the one people still talk about.
